>> Raising Semper Fi <<
I am working to release a new web video for an anti-war song inspired by my sister, who is an active duty, 18 year veteran of the United States Marines. It will cost $3500 to produce the song and video and I need your help to make this happen. I'm happy to offer you the Mp3 as a free download. I also invite you to consider supporting me with a contribution. Even a "tip" of a dollar would be awesome and help me raise the money I need to produce this important video.
What makes this song important?
Our country is more divided than ever. Each side uses similar language and invective to villify and discount the other. Yet there doesn't seem to be much interest in finding the middle way and creating compromise. I believe a house divided will fall, and unless we take action to find common ground, our future and our freedom are in peril.
War supporters are reacting to the peace movement as though it were the peace movement of the 60's, when troops were shunned, abused and derided, creating a generation of veterans who sacrificed for an ungrateful nation. Thus the proliferation of "Support Our Troops" magnets on cars and trucks as a sign of patriotism and support for the war. As if the only way to "Support Our Troops" is to support the war.
But today's peace movement is different. We recognize that the troops we're sending to Iraq are our neighbors, and indeed our brothers and sisters, sons and daughters. Our protesting the war IS, in fact, our way of supporting our troops. Why let them die for a lie?
This song and video are intended to demonstrate to conservative and mainstream Americans that it is possible to "Support Our Troops" and actively promote peace.
Why are you asking me for money?
I'm an independent songwriter/activist, doing the thing I do best (creating) to contribute to the Great Cause of peace, justice and freedom. As an independent musician, and a starting one at that, I don't have the resources to make this happen on my own. Furthermore, I believe there's incredible power in focusing group attention. "Many hands make light work". And this is work that needs to be done.
Please read the lyrics and listen to the song and let me know what you think.
A Proven Model For Success
The web video for "(Didn't Know I Was) Unamerican" [Link] continues to be a huge success. Over a million people around the world have heard the song, with hundreds more each week watching the film online. Over 10,000 people have given me their email addresses to let them know about new music. (You might be one of those people. Thank you!) This will be the launching pad for Semper Fi.
As was the case with "Unamerican" (which added thousands of members to TrueMajority's activist network), I plan to work with a national organization to help with their efforts. (Habitat for Humanity's Katrina rebuilding effort is a leading candidate.) If you have an idea for an organization to support, please email me and let me know.
If you are inspired by my work and are lead to do so, please make a contribution today. Thank you.
