This was the first time I'd performed a set of my own songs for people and a week or two before my first "public" performance, which was a one-song performance of "Unamerican" at a civic engagement rally a week earlier. Note the friendly faces. Gotta love NorCal. And, I do. I spent my last dollar to buy a roadcase for my piano on an invitation to attend the DNC. At the end of the week, I was invited by the Kucinich Presidential campaign to close the Campaign Gala at Boston's Paradise Rock Club. Playin the historic Fillmo My debut with a band - a rite of passage of sorts. That's Bay Area session magnate Matt Cunitz (not You Know Who) on bass, Bob Wilms on git, and the unscene Jason Sbordone on drums. I was invited to perform on the capitol steps in Montgomery Alabama for a candlelight vigil honoring fallen soldiers. The event was organized by a sixteen year old girl as her "Sweet 16" party. The capitol building is a block from Martin Luther King's church. I read a passage from MLK's "Beyond Vietnam" speech while looking at his church. You can see me standing on the steps of the church, and walking away from the mic on the candlelight vigil shot. Opening for Tower of Power on the Fillmore Main Stage. MMMmmm. yeahhh.... My roommate's talent lights and lifts and clarifies.
